Linked to our blog, with people's first names only. We email out an excel version to everyone at the beginning of term. But we're still on a manual reminder system - someone emails everyone who is serving that week on the tuesday or wed - we've yet to work out how to do that automatically. It's not there yet, but the guys who are working on jethro (http://jethro-pmm.sourceforge.net/) a church pastoral management system (i.e. database) are working on another product 'levi' which sounds like it could do some of what you mention here. It would be interesting to see if a good system, that works the way you suggest, would result in the roster at church feeling less or more 'personal'. Sounds like rostering bliss.
