Getting rid of Feedback – Part 3

Most microphones are carefully designed so they don’t pickup sound equally from all directions. These so called unidirectional (or cardioid – which means ‘heart shaped’ which will make sense in a sec) microphones are designed to pickup very strongly what they are pointing directly at, only minimal pickup from the sides and virtually none from the back.

New version of MODx out for Christmas

My favourite website Content Management System MODx has released a new version just in time for Christmas. Thanks guys! This is a great piece of open source software, which I use for all my web clients these days. Over time I am hoping that check12.com will show you how to use it to make a killer [...]

Lessons Learnt from Church Without Walls

A couple of weekends ago my church, St Pauls Anglican Menai, moved our Saturday service out of the church and into the local park. This was the first significant outdoor event I can remember us doing … In the process of putting it on we learnt a few valuable lessons.

ProVoc for iPhone

I don’t have an iPhone yet, but the case for getting one just got even stronger. At college me and my mac buddies go to town with a program called ProVoc to drill all our Greek and Hebrew vocab. I would know just about zero Greek and even less Hebrew words if it wasn’t for [...]

Farewell Jannali Anglican Church

This morning I preached my last sermon as a student minister at Jannali Anglican Church. Laura and I are moving to Dundas next year for phase 2 of our student minister training. Thankyou so much to all the people at church who have loved us, supported us, befriended us and encouraged us! You have been a delightful [...]

Who is your church-website for?

Back in my uni days I did some work on software usability – that is asking ‘how easy is this computer program to use?’ and ‘how can we make it easier to use?’. Many of the principles can be applied to websites. The first step was always to have a think about who the users actually are. What broad groups of users are using (or should be using) your church website?

Social Networking and the Gospel

Mikey pointed me in the direction of these two excellent reflections on the pro’s and con’s of social networking (facebook, twitter etc…) for ministry and the gospel:
1. Gospel and Culture Project
2. Ed Stetzer

TokBox

Just discovered TokBox - http://www.tokbox.com/. It is a simple, web-based video chat that doesn’t require a software download (unlike like skype) and works on your existing chat accounts (like MSN, AOL, ICQ etc…). Definitely potential for live missionary interview’s in church… but that will be the topic of a future post. Worth a look.

Making the Peasant Princess

The 2nd post in the Making the Peasant Princess series is up on the Resurgence. This one includes some interesting notes on how the graphics and video intro were put together. Of particular interest to me is some detail on how they run their SMS Q&A.

Church Without Walls Follow-up

Church Without Walls on Saturday was a big success. It was a scorching hot day, with a strong gusty wind, but that didn’t stop our first foray into big outdoor events from going off without a hitch. We learnt a lot from putting it on, so I’ll be posting up a full article later. For [...]
